There is no urgent need for contact but an individual may be curious as to their legal position. What is the proper method for dealing with this, just wait forever?Anyone ever have a lawyer whom during the middle of a case (after being paid) just quit returning phone calls?
Hasn't happened to me personally, although my divorce attorney was very slow returning calls. Go to lawyer's office. If you can't get anywhere, contact the Bar Association.Anyone ever have a lawyer whom during the middle of a case (after being paid) just quit returning phone calls?
Here's the thing: with most attorneys, they are super, super busy, and if there is no reason for your call other than a routine, ';update,'; it might take awhile. Now, if there were a lot of things going on in your case or you had something coming up (hearing, deposition, etc.), then he might have something to say.
I've been a paralegal for several years now and there is nothing more annoying than a client calling several times a day when there is nothing going on. Things in court can take awhile...no matter what type of case you have (divorce, civil, workers' comp, whatever), there is a process that we have to follow.
Try talking to the paralegal. They should be able to update you and if they can't, they will find the best time to ask the attorney, find out the status, and give you a call back.
You may have to actually visit the office and see your lawyer personally. If they continue to duck your calls I would consider reporting them to the state bar association.
